To gain admission to PG medical courses, candidates are required to meet the following eligibility criteria for Andhra Pradesh NEET PG Counselling 2026:
- Age Limit: There is no age limit for PG (MD/MS) course admission.
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold an MBBS degree or a recognised certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC).
- Internship: Candidates must complete their one-year internship or have the original certificate by the cut-off date specified in the NTRUHS prospectus.
- Registration Certificate: Candidates must have a permanent or provisional MBBS registration certificate issued by the NMC.
- Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India.
- Local Status: Candidates must establish Local or Non-Local status as per G.O.P. No. 646 (1979), since this decides access to 85% of seats.
Local vs Non-Local Status: The Key AP Eligibility Rule
This is the single most important eligibility factor for AP NEET PG Counselling. As per Andhra Pradesh’s Presidential Order (G.O.P. No. 646, Education Dept., dated 10 July 1979) and subsequent government orders:
- 85% of State Quota / Competent Authority Quota seats in government medical colleges are reserved for Local candidates, allotted within their own local area.
- 15% of seats are open (unreserved) to candidates regardless of local status, filled purely on NEET PG merit.
- The state is divided into two local areas for PG admission purposes: the Andhra University (AU) area and the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) area, based on the district of qualifying study.
- Non-Local candidates are eligible only for the 15% unreserved seats; they cannot claim any category reservation (SC/ST/BC/EWS) within that 15% share.
- Candidates who completed MBBS in Andhra Pradesh or Telangana, or who hold AP/Telangana domicile despite studying elsewhere, generally qualify as local; others should confirm their status carefully before applying.
- A Local Status Certificate issued by the MRO (Mandal Revenue Officer) is required for candidates claiming local status through migration or domicile.
