- Discontinuation penalty: Candidates who discontinue the MD/MS course midway are liable for a bond penalty of Rs 5,00,000.

PGIMER vs GMCH Chandigarh
This is one of the most common points of confusion for Chandigarh PG aspirants:
| Point | GMCH-32 Chandigarh | PGIMER Chandigarh |
|---|---|---|
| Admission exam | NEET PG (this counselling) | INI-CET (separate, run by PGIMER) |
| Counselling authority | GMCH, Sector 32 | PGIMER itself |
| Seat pools | IP Pool, UT Chandigarh Pool | Not applicable – INI-CET is purely merit-based; no domicile requirement |
| AIQ/MCC applicability | 50% of seats via MCC | Not applicable |
NEET PG 2026 Exam Pattern
- Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT), conducted in a single shift on a single day – 30-08-2026.
- Syllabus: Based on subjects/knowledge areas as per the MBBS curriculum issued by the NMC/erstwhile MCI.
- Number of Questions: 180 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each with 4 response options in English language only.
- Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes.
- Sections: The paper is divided into 5 time-bound sections – Group A, B, C, D, and E – with 36 questions per section and 42 minutes allotted per section. Candidates cannot move to the next section before the current section’s time ends, and once a section’s time is over, its answers cannot be reviewed or changed; the next section starts automatically.
- Mark for Review: Candidates can mark any question (attempted or not) for review before the section’s time ends; such questions are still evaluated per the standard marking scheme.
Important: Once submitted, an application cannot be withdrawn, and Name, Nationality, Email ID, Mobile Number, Aadhaar details, Correspondence Address, and Test State preferences cannot be changed even during the Edit Window – enter these carefully the first time.
Common Mistakes to Avoid in Chandigarh NEET PG Counselling
- Confusing PGIMER with GMCH-32: PGIMER seats need INI-CET, not this counselling.
- Missing the choice-locking deadline: Unlocked choices are not considered for allotment.
- Wrong pool selection: Applying under the UT Chandigarh Pool without the domicile/eligibility documents under clause PG-4B can lead to rejection at verification.
- Not tracking the seat-surrender window: Candidates who want to move to Round 2/3 must surrender within the notified window to avoid losing eligibility.
- Outdated category certificates: SC/OBC/EWS/PwBD certificates must meet the validity date specified in the year’s prospectus.
- Ignoring the document-deficiency window: This window is only about 2 days in past cycles – treat it as urgent, not a formality.
- Assuming a rural service bond applies: GMCH Chandigarh has no 2-year rural bond, but the Rs 5 lakh discontinuation penalty still applies – don’t confuse the two.
